TV3’s First Week Performance

TV3’s First Week Performance

The first full week’s data on the viewing of TV3, the new Irish TV channel (see Newsline) has been made available by The Media Bureau. TV3 is described as having got off to ‘an impressive start’, with some 75% of adults currently capable of receiving the channel having at least looked at the station.

The channel received a 13% Republic of Ireland commercial break-share, and an 18% share for younger age groups. The rather erratic viewing share over the day (average Mon – Fri) can be seen in the chart below.

The top ten programmes on TV3 were not any home produced programmes but films, with Bad Boys, Quick And The Dead, and Rambo: First Blood drawing the highest numbers of viewers.

Laser is the sales house for TV3, and a spokesperson from the group today told Newsline:”It’s being called the most successful TV launch ever, it has been spectacularly successful. It is achieving almost 900,000 viewers a day, and when you compare that to the population of the Republic of Ireland, which is around 2,774,000, that viewing figure is quite impressive.”

Andrew Bagnell, planning director at TV3, said of the launch:”The launch has gone far better than anyone had ever hoped or dreamed of, it has been quite exceptional and, without wanting to get too confident, we hope that the trends continue.”
