Volkswagen Takes Award At This Year’s Aerial Awards

The 4th Aerial Awards took place at the end of last week at BAFTA (see Newsline for a list of judges and entries). The winners were as follows:

  • Automotive Category and Gold Winner Award: Volkswagen Polo, BMP
  • Food/Drink Category: Marmite, BMP.
  • Charity and Public Service Category: Health Education Authority, BMP DDB.
  • General Category: Hamlet, CDP.
  • Leisure Category: Sunday Times, Rainey Kelly Campbell Roalfe.
  • Retail/Finance Category: McDonald’s, Leo Burnett.
  • Best Campaign: Marston’s Pedigree,Agency producer Louise Fuller, creative team Sean Thompson, Roz Sinclair and John Smith.

There were some new award categories introduced at this year’s Aerial Awards, concerned with ‘craft skills’ (see Newsline). The winners were:

  • Best Casting: Rover: Ralph van Dijk and Julie Davis of Eardrum.
  • Best Sound Design: British Airways, Dave Stewart, and Brain Brady of Larger Than Life.
  • Best Direction: Holsten Pils, Michael Burke and John Anderson of GGT, Neil Harrington of Space.

Andrew Ingram, director of the award’s sponsor, the Radio Advertising Bureau, commented: “The unique nature of the live voting on the night from the cream of the advertising creative community makes the awards the most democratic in the industry. What is priceless about the voting is that nobody knows who is going to win on the night.”
