Reuters Offers News-On-Demand To Digital TV

In an attempt to make news ‘more attractive in the age of digital television and the internet’, news agency Reuters has developed an on-demand news service called NewsBreaker. The multi-media product has been designed specifically to work in a digital TV (DTV) and internet environment, making use of their interactive capabilities.

Users will be able to select headlines, which will be updated throughout the day, and watch a full video playout of the story. It will also be possible to personalise the way news is delivered to your screen, by removing unwanted subjects, for example.

Phillip Melchior, chief operating officer for Reuters Corporate and Media Information Group, said: “The internet, digital television and the availability of broadband communications demands visuals and a new approach to publishing. Reuters has the news-gathering reach and technical skills to partner publishers in creating a new era for news.”

Reuters NewsBreaker is targeting DTV operators, such as cable companies, telecommunications companies and TV stations, that are not able or willing to invest in their own news-gathering infrastructure.
