Channel 4 is understood to be on the brink of signing a deal with Monica Lewinsky, the Whitehouse intern involved in the Clinton scandal, for a television interview.
The deal will allow Channel 4 to sell the interview around the world, except in America and Canada. Jon Snow is expected to conduct the interview, and speculation has set the value of the deal at approximately £400,000.
The channel is currently believed to be in the process of assessing what the scope of the interview will be, and whether Miss Lewinsky will be prepared to talk about what people want to hear, ie her sexual relationship with President Clinton. Reports today compared the significance of the interview to that of Princess Diana on the BBC. Channel 4 can expect the interview to top its ratings chart, but whether it will beat the 23 million viewers who tuned in to watch Princess Di on the BBC has yet to be seen.
The deal is expected to be announced later this week.
