Pay TV subscribers has surpassed the 800 million mark worldwide, increasing by 8% over 2012, according to a report by Research and Markets.

The report found that the Asia-Pacific region accounted for most of the growth in 2012 – adding 40 million new Pay TV households in the region to a total of just over 445 million.

Pay TV consists of cable TV, satellite TV and IPTV subscribers.

However, Pay TV seems to have plateaued in North American households, which remained flat last year at just under 113 million.

Pay TV services remain strong in the UK, with TalkTalk recently announcing that 150,000 new households subscribed in the first quarter of 2013.

Out of the 1.43 billion worldwide TV households, 56% currently subscribe to a Pay TV service.
