Sex And Violence On TV Gets Complaints
This month’s Broadcasting Standards Commission Bulletin featured complaints against ITV’s The Bill, concerning violent scenes and the use of bad language before the watershed. The Commission decided to uphold the complaints after ruling that the episodes in question would have exceeded family expectations.
Eastenders was also in the spotlight after over 20 complaints were received concerning the issue of homosexual kissing and the general level of sexual contact throughout the programme. The broadcaster said that the programme sought to reflect and deal honestly with the themes which preoccupy contemporary society, and the commission ruled that the implications of the storyline were within the programmes limits.
