Following the dismissal of John Mulholland, editor-to-be of Sporting Life yesterday (see Newsline), Mirror Group announced today that Pat Pilton has been appointed to supervise the ‘editorial development’ of the title.
The title’s launch date, initially planned for Autumn, was recently postponed in a controversial move, after which Mirror Group assured staff that the project would continue. Speculation suggests that this move has damaged the title’s credibilty, and may create problems in recruiting high-profile writers in the future.
It is hoped that Pilton, a former editor, will lead the already recruited team of journalists in progressing to a successful launch.
