C4 Appoints Film Four Marketing Head

Channel 4 has appointed Dan Brooke as head of marketing and development for the channel’s pay television services. Initially he will be responsible for the development of the Film Four digital TV channel set to launch in November (see C4 Secures Digital Film Channel Distribution).

Brooke’s marketing work on the Film Four channel will extend across all media including cinemas, video, TV and publishing. The independent and cult film channel has secured carriage deals with Sky Digital, On Digital, cable and Sky’s current analogue service.

As well as Film Four, Brooke and head of C4 pay services, Gerry Bastable, will be responsible for further development of the broadcaster’s pay-TV operations. Bastable says: “Dan Brooke is one of the brightest marketing talents in the ultra competitive multi channel television market and I think his special skills will be of immense value to Channel 4.”

Brooke, who moves from Paramount Comedy Channel, said: “Channel 4 is one of the most valuable brands in television and film with an enviable reputation for innovation and creativity.”

A spokesperson for Channel 4 said that it was also looking into the possibility of a pay-TV racing service, which would be an enhancement of the channel’s existing racing coverage. The scope for launching interactive services across DTT, Sky Digital and broadband cable are also being considered.
