The BBC will be offering 10 live streams of Wimbledon 2013, available across mobile, tablet, computer and connected TV devices.
Satellite and cable television viewers will be able to choose from three additional streams, while Freeview, BT Vision and YouView subscribers will have the option of just two extra courts – one in high definition and the other in standard definition – alongside the best of the action on BBC One and Two.
Virgin TiVo customers will have access to all 10 live courts via the connected red button service, and Connected TV viewers will be able to access the Wimbledon action via the BBC app.
“One of the challenges we have been grappling with over the past months and years is how to get the right amount of capacity for BBC Red Button broadcast video streams,” said Alix Pryde, director of distribution at the BBC.
“The reason why there is only one additional standard definition stream on digital terrestrial television rather than two is that unfortunately there isn’t the capacity available in the market to do more.”
The BBC will also make available over 170 hours of live radio coverage across Radio 5 Live and Live Sports Extra for the two weeks that the tournament is on for.
