Channel 5 is currently in discussions with a number of potential sponsors for its coverage of US National Football League (NFL) games.
A spokesperson for C5 said that a deal was close to completion although details of the contenders could not be revealed. The channel secured the rights to NFL games last week only a month after Channel 4 terminated its 16 year contract with the League (see Channel 5 Scores With NFL).
Games will be shown on C5’s late night sports show, Live and Dangerous; live games will be broadcast on Monday afternoons. It is likely that the successful sponsor will be associated with both these programmes, although the exact deal depends on the particular advertiser.
American Football is not the only US sport carried by Channel 5 – it also shows Major League Baseball live twice a week, and Indycar Highlights on Sunday evenings.
