Renegade Programme From Dazed and Channel 4
Dazed & Confused style magazine has teamed up with Channel 4 to produce what may be the first masthead TV programme (a programme which is made or funded by a magazine or newspaper and has the same style and name) to be aired on commercial terrestrial TV (see Newsline).
Dazed’s editor Jefferson Hack and creative director Rankin have been active participants in the programme’s creation, which will feature short films and documentaries, comedy sketches and art videos as well as spoof ads and portraits. Contributors to the programme will include Bjork, actress Kathy Burke, cult writer Irvine Welsh and James Lavelle.
The programme will be aired on 17 September at 23:30, under the title Renegade TV Gets Dazed. The first programme of its kind, plans are underway to launch a digital television magazine channel (see Newsline). There has been much speculation over the validity of masthead programmes, and whether they will be successful if and when they reach the small screen.
