Carlton and Universal To Run Together In Digital Race
Carlton Communications, one of the biggest ITV companies, is to team up with Universal Studios to create two channels to be broadcast on digital terrestrial television.
The two channels, rumoured to be one film- and one crime-focused, are to be run on On Digital, formerly British Digital Broadcasting (see Newsline).
The film channel will feature material from both the Carlton and Universal archives, whereas the crime channel will apparently involve crime documentaries, films and dramas.
When the Independent Television Commission was approached for its position on the channels today, a spokesperson stated that: “Although we would want the range across the multiplex to be maintained, we are unable to pass judgement until we have seen the final written programme proposals.”
