A record 1.5 million unique browsers accessed the BBC’s digital coverage of Glastonbury, with 42% of total traffic coming from mobile and tablet devices.

According to BBC figures, 47% accessed coverage from PCs, 25% from mobiles, 17% from tablets and 11% from connected TVs – a 98% increase from the last Glastonbury in 2011.

Peak digital viewing across all platforms was between 10 and 11pm on Friday, as audiences tuned in to see the Arctic Monkeys.

The Rolling Stones’ performance resulted in approximately 700,000 requests across live TV, catch-up and radio – the most requested performance across the weekend.

A daily record 228,000 people used the BBC iPlayer app on Friday, with the festival prompting almost 110,000 downloads of the app – bringing the total downloads to 2.6 million.

YouTube also proved to be a popular source of viewing, with one million views of all Glastonbury content consumed via the BBC’s YouTube channel. Live online webcasts received around 1.5 million requests.

On connected TVs, live coverage and the webcast (55,000 unique browsers) of the Pyramid Stage on Saturday proved most popular.

“Glastonbury 2013 on the BBC has been outstanding,” said Bob Shennan, BBC Controller of popular music. “Record-breaking numbers of people tuned in to what has been our most comprehensive digital Glastonbury offering to date.

“This year, we gave our audience the opportunity to watch what they wanted, when they wanted and how they wanted. And they did.”
