Visa And Swatch Join Premiership Sponsors

The Premier League has completed its sponsorship line-up for the 1998/99 football season. Visa and Swatch have just secured deals with the FA to become executive and second-tier sponsors respectively.

The FA said recently that it wished to clear the ‘clutter’ of advertisers by having only five major sponsors that will have their logos on perimeter boards around football grounds (see Premier League To Clear The ‘Clutter’ Of Advertisers). These are the Daily Telegraph, McDonald’s, Sky Sports, Nestlé and Wilkinson Sword.

The second-tier sponsors are Mitre, Swatch and Lucozade. These brands will not have their brands on the grounds’ boards.

Plans for the launch of an official Premier League magazine are currently on hold a Premiership spokesperson said this afternoon.
