X-Files Movie Grosses £2.5m In Its First Weekend
The X-Files: Fight The Future was the last summer Hollywood blockbuster to be released at the weekend, and in its first few days made it to the £2.5 million mark, averaging £5,981 per screen.
This puts the movie fairly neck-to-neck with Bruce Willis’ latest action sci-fi, Armageddon, which grossed £2,732,785 in its first weekend (7-9 August). However, Lost In Space and, rather surprisingly, Dr.Dolittle made it over the £3 million mark during their first weekends, making £3,127,079 and £3,047,574 respectively, proving that pretty faces and cute animals still put bottoms on seats.
Warner Brothers’ strategy of showing no previews appears to have had a rather detrimental affect on The Avengers‘ audience rates, as it got off to a rather disappointing start on the first weekend of its release, and didn’t even make it to the million pound mark, clocking in at a measly £937,166 in its first few days – probably as a result of moody critics and word of mouth.
