National Newspaper NRS – July 1998

The latest NRS figures for the period Feb-Jul 1998 show that only three of the national papers gained readership during those six months, with all the other national titles losing ground. The Mirror showed the most impressive increase in readership, with a percentage gain of 6.29, with The Express On Sunday next in line with an increase of 3.01%.

The biggest percentage loss in readers was suffered by The Guardian, whose readership fell by nearly 17%, but hopefully its new advertising campaign should remedy some of these losses (see Newsline). The Independent managed to reduce its losses compared to the last period, perhaps due to its takeover (see Newsline).

The Sunday People and The Daily Telegraph displayed the biggest losses in actual readership, losing 361,000 and 355,000 respectively.

Again, in terms of total readership, The News Of The World leads again this period despite a loss of 0.37% year on year.
