Speculation Surrounds Future Of Talk Radio

The future ownership of Talk Radio may see yet another twist as speculation is currently mounting that the station’s management, headed by MD Paul Robinson, is planning a second takeover bid to rival Kelvin MacKenzie.

Although no-one at Talk Radio was willing to comment when contacted today, it is understood that the MBO team is planning to submit a renewed offer for the station, possibly up to £26 million. Robinson’s team originally bid £20 million but was squeezed out of negotiations by MacKenzie’s TalkCo offer of £25 million (see MacKenzie Closes In On Talk).

Since then TalkCo has been in protracted discussions with Talk Radio’s owner CLT-ufa, over the final value of the station. It is now believed that MacKenzie has downgraded his offer to around £20 million, claiming that Talk Radio has lost value because media company share prices have fallen since the original £25 million bid was made.

This may open up a possibility for Robinson’s management team to usurp MacKenzie’s exclusive talks with CLT-ufa, and get a second chance at taking control of the station.
