TV Viewing Summary W/E 06/09/98
Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, ITV’s latest high-concept light entertainment programme, makes a very strong showing in this week’s top thirty programmes list. The first three editions of the show all make an appearance on the list with audiences of 7.76 million and above (Sunday’s edition managed to pull in 12.37 million people, higher than any episode of this week’s Eastenders).
When it comes round to commissioning a new drama series, ITV chiefs managed to put their collective thinking caps on and came up with…. a cop show (big surprise). Yorkshire television’s Supply & Demand pulled in impressive 8.89 million viewers, not too far away from the magic 10 million mark that would automatically ensure it was recommissioned for a second series.
Two film premieres managed to muscle their way into the top thirty list, BBC1’s Waterworld which attracted 8.66 million viewers and ITV’s Cool Runnings which was watched by 8.06 million.
