ITV Clarifies Targets
Contrary to data published in the IPA’s Trends in Television report (see TV Viewing Falls), ITV says that it never set quarterly or even yearly peak time viewing share lead targets over BBC1.
According to the IPA, ITV had set a peak time share lead of 6.4% over BBC1 for each quarter up to the year 2000 and for quarter 1 the Network had failed to meet this.
It has now emerged however that no such targets were set by ITV. According to an ITV spokesperson, the Network Centre set a peak time share lead target over BBC1 of 6.4% or above by the year 2000: no specific targets for quarters were ever set.
It was a misunderstanding on the part of the IPA which lead to these figures being published.
The earlier report on Newsline has now been amended.
