Revenue Grows At Telewest

Telewest today announced quarter 1 financial results which showed a 22.2% year on year increase in revenue to £110 million while losses on ordinary activities before tax grew slightly to £70.225m.

Cable TV customers grew 14% to over 617,000 while penetration slipped 0.1% points to 22.1%. There was also a disappointing increase in churn, which grew 2.2% points to 34.8%. There was strong growth in the internet division, which grew by 248% to 17,059 customers.

David Van Valkenburg, interim chief executive of Telewest, commented: “1998 is off to a promising start. With the restructuring of the business now behind us we have been able to concentrate on our core products.”
