EU: Return of the eco-label

EU: Return of the eco-label

The Parliament has adopted a Commission proposal designed to re-launch the EU Eco-label, which has not so far found popularity with the EU public. Speaking during a debate in Brussels at the end of April, the MEP Danilo Poggiolini (I, EPP) said the Eco-label had been unsuccessful in the past because national schemes, such as Germany’s, and bureaucratic problems in establishing a system of contact between various national authorities, has hampered the effectiveness of EU measures. He believes that a lack of publicity is another major obstacle to the label gaining wide support; the EP has agreed to launch of an advertising campaign to promote the initiative.
