EU: Expert Group assembles

The European Commission has sent to member state governments a draft agenda for the first meeting of the Expert Group on commercial communications, which will take place on 27 May 1998. A working paper on ‘The Regulation of Discounts in the Internal Market’ has also been distributed. The agenda – as expected – is largely composed of Commission presentations on: the assessment methodology; the proposed web site and newsletter; and the proposed regulatory online database, including a proposed exchange of views on the last item. There will also be a discussion of procedural issues (such as the composition of the group and the status of communications between the MS and the group, as well as with other advisory groups). The substantive item for discussion is that provided by the working paper on discounts
