Profits Fall At BSkyB
BSkyB today announced interim financial results which revealed a 5.5% fall in pre-tax profits to £203.3 million. This was caused by a slowdown in subscriber growth along with the cost of launching its digital services and the Premier League football contract. In the first three months of the year only 2,500 new dish customers were signed up by the satellite broadcaster.
It was also announced that Granada chief Gerry Robinson and his finance director Henry Staunton would be resigning as directors of BSkyB. Their position on the board was untenable since Granada is a 50% shareholder in digital terrestrial TV consortium British Digital Broadcasting – the main rival of BSkyB’s digital satellite service.
Granada will still be represented on the BSkyB board however by commercial director Graham Parrott.
