Sport First Appoints Editor
The long-planned national sports daily newspaper, Sport First, has taken a step closer to launch with the appointment of David Emery as its editor. Emery will leave his post at the Press Association, where he is editor of its page production unit, on 16 January. He also regularly writes sports features for the Mail On Sunday.
Sport First is to be the UK’s first national daily newspaper dedicated to sport news and features. Although the title was looking at a launch of February to March last year (subscribers see Sport First Looks To 1998), a spokesperson for the paper said he could not say with any certainty when the launch would be.
Emery is expected to start recruiting staff as soon as he joins the paper which is published by Parliamentary Communications. Editorial director Bob Harris will use his position to set up a network of contacts throughout the world rather than edit the paper as was first planned.
