Capital Radio has said that it will challenge the Monopolies and Mergers Commission regarding its decision on Capital’s proposed takeover bid of Virgin (subscribers see MMC Report Could Curtail Capital’s Expansion Plans).
While a judicial review is not expected to occur, Capital will be commissioning independent research from Case Associates to show that a Capital/Virgin merger would not necessarily have driven ad rates up.
At its Annual General Meeting, Capital said: “We intend to challenge the MMC conclusions to ensure they are not followed in future by any other regulatory body.”
The broadcaster also announced “strong radio advertising growth across the first quarter” for all of its stations.
