The Weather Channel , which was launched in June 1996 (subscribers see Weather Channel Signs Distribution Deal), is to close its UK, German and Dutch broadcasts. The channel’s final transmission will be on Friday 30 January at noon.
The channel’s owner, Atlanta-based Landmark Communications, operates a successful US weather channel but has found that the UK and European projects are not viable despite the Weather Channel buying out the rival Weather Network only months after they both launched (subscribers see Weather Channel Appoints Sales House).
