Flextech Merge Children’s Channels
Flextech, the programme provider for cable and satellite, has decided to effectively close its TCC channel on 4 April. TCC, which was the nation’s first dedicated children’s channel, will cease broadcasting whilst Flextech’s teenage channel Trouble will receive an extra five hours of programming.
From 4 April Trouble will transmit from 7am to 8pm seven days a week, preceding Bravo which broadcasts from 8pm to 6am.
Lis Howell, Flextech’s vice president of programming, commented: “The extension of Trouble to 13 hours to replace TCC is a natural evolution of a new channel brand which has proved hugely successful since being launched a year ago.” Howell cites the proliferation of channels targeting the 4-9 year old audience as the reason for TCC’s termination.
TCC’s share of audience fell from 0.7% to 0.2% between in the period January 1997-January 1998.
