Losses Deepen At Telewest
Telewest Communications, the UK’s second largest cable operator, has announced a rise in pre-tax losses from £249.9 million to £309.9 million for 1997. Turnover, however, rose 33% to £386m.
Telewest also said that it was in talks with a number of companies regarding the launch of digital cable services. It expects to be able to reveal its partners in April.
Cable TV churn rose slightly from 33.4% to 34% while penetration worsened slightly with a fall to 22%. There was an increase in the number of TV subscribers however, up 14% to 606,000, while internet customers rose 800% to 16,700.
The company also stated that it expected to go into profit in 2001.
