BT Sport and the National Basketball Association (NBA) have signed an exclusive multi-year television deal that will give BT the live broadcasting rights of NBA programming in the UK and Ireland.
The new agreement will see up to 200 games throughout the season appearing across BT Sport 1, 2 and ESPN, with coverage including weekly games on Sundays in prime time.
Viewers will also have access to selected games streamed live and for free on the BT Sport website and app, alongside several magazine shows that combine weekly highlights and news.
“With BT Sports’ first rate presentation and formidable portfolio of premium sports content, fans can now look forward to more NBA action than ever before,” said Dan Markham, NBA vice president of media distribution and emerging markets.
“Through its innovative multi-platform offering of live NBA games, highlights, magazinhe shows and unique behind-the-scenes programming, BT Sport is the ideal partner to serve as the official broadcaster of the NBA.”
Earlier this month, BT became the first broadcaster to secure the exclusive rights of the Champions League and Europa League football matches. The £897 million deal resulted in rival Sky’s shares dropping 10%.
