United News and Media announced at the weekend that it had sold its remaining regional newspapers to venture capital group Candover for £360 million.
The sale of the United Provincial Newspapers northern division includes flagship daily titles such as the Yorkshire Post , Yorkshire Evening Post and Lancashire Evening Post among its 44 titles.
The titles were put up for sale for the second time last December (subscribers see UPN Titles Up For Sale – Again). The move follows the sale of United Southern Publications to Southnews last month (subscribers see Southnews To Concentrate On London And Home Counties) and represents UNM’s desire to concentrate on its television interests.
