Contrary to recent press reports, The Independent currently has no plans to launch a new supplement dedicated to gay issues. A spokesperson for the paper stated plainly to Newsline that “it isn’t going to happen.”
The creation of the supplement, which was reported to be called either Pink or Gay Thursday, was probably the talk of an Independent journalist who ‘thought it was a good idea’, said the spokesperson.
After only a week or so in new ownership (subscribers see Independent Gets New Owner), they said, the launch of a new section would certainly be a management decision.
