Associated To Launch Free Daily In London
Associated Newspapers, publisher of the Daily Mail and Evening Standard in London, is planning to launch a new free daily newspaper to be given away to commuters.
It is expected that the paper will be launched within the next six months, following year-long preparations and a reported £8 million investment. The morning title will feature news, listings and features each day. It has been modelled on a free Scandinavian newspaper called Metro which is published by Modern Times Group and distributed in Stockholm, Gothenburg, Budapest and Prague. It is also understood the Associated is about to conclude a deal with London Underground to distribute the paper to commuters travelling on the Tube.
The move is believed to be in response to the launch of a possible rival newspaper by another publishing group, although no-one at Associated Newspapers was available to comment on this matter when contacted by Newsline.
Earlier in the week the company announced a number of management changes (see Management Re-Shuffle At Associated Newspapers).
