Cable Take-Up Rate On The Rise

The first quarter of 1998 saw the cable television take up rate rise to 22.4 per cent. This is the highest level ever for that quarter, and an increase on January 1 figures which generally show the highest number of connections of the year, according to an Independent Television Commission (ITC) report.

The survey also shows that the cable industry gains just under £719 million a year from monthly television subscriptions; the average cost of a cable television subscription is £24.29.

The UK now has 11 million broadband cable homes passed, of which 3.64 million are connected (33%). TV service penetration is 22.4%

These figures are taken up to 1 April 1998.
