Sky Sports will show the cricket Indian Premier League exclusively live for the first time.
Viewers will have access to 60 live matches from the IPL each year from 2015, meaning that from next year, only Sky Sports subscribers will be able to watch the world’s top four domestic Twenty20 cricket competitions.
“It’s the cricket competition that everyone is talking about and from next year, only on Sky Sports can viewers follow the IPL live,” said Barney Francis, managing director of Sky Sports.
“Sky Sports’ cricket coverage has never been stronger, offering something for everyone including all the major Test playing nations and all the best players.”
Over the past year Sky Sports has made a series of high profile investments – most notably in football rights – as it battles with BT to maintain control of the market.
However, despite investing heavily in sports programming, the broadcaster saw its shares drop 10% after rival BT won the exclusive Champions League rights.
