NRS Data Release Delayed

The release of the June 1997 – May 1998 readership estimates from NRS has been delayed, and is now scheduled for release on Monday 6 July.

However, data collected in June ’97 for national newspapers will not be included in the NRS figures. The data to be released will therefore cover the 11 month period July 1997 – May 1998.

This is because NRS has been using a new test questionnaire which is designed to record more readership data of newspaper supplements (see NPA Approves NRS Changes). Data received from two sets (the test sample and the control sample) was found to have an unusually large discrepancy over the first three months of the test (May, June and July 1997). Because of this the Newspaper Publishers Association (NPA) has asked that the data from these months should not be published. The IPA and PPA have agreed to this.
