Public Switch To Electronic Shopping Says Survey
The latest Sensor survey from CIA MediaLab reports that people are switching to purchasing products via computers, faxes and telephones in a move away from direct mail and catalogues. Consumers, says the survey, prefer the speed of technology.
The survey asked which method they would choose to buy a cross-section of products and found that electronic communication was on the increase:
| 1995 | 1997 | |
| Direct Mail | 16% | 14% |
| Catalogue | 34% | 31% |
| Coupon | 3% | 3% |
| Telephone | 26% | 28% |
| Computer | 7% | 14% |
| Fax | 5% | 6% |
Products tested included cars, holidays, financial services, electrical appliances and PCs. David Fletcher, head of CIA MediaLab, said: “Customers are becoming more time-poor and money-rich. Their need for quality time is such that they are shifting towards faster electronic buying channels over direct mail.”
