Digital Broadcasting Company Plans ‘Distinctive’ Movie Service
A new pay-per-view film service service is being planned by St. James’ Investment Partnership and will run under the name of Digital Broadcasting Company (DBC). St. James is run by two former BSkyB executives, Richard Dunn and Richard Brooke; DBC is also part-funded by the venture capital group, MediaVentures.
Planning to launch on the digital networks in early 1999, the service will carry pay-per-view films of what Roger Hall, director of marketing, describes as a ‘distinctive’ nature. He says the service aims to move away from the blockbuster hit formula which will be operated by BSkyB on its digital satellite service.
DBC is currently forging broadcast deals with owners of independent, cult and European films in an attempt to provide a more ‘focused’ service content.
