Amazon unveils new TV streaming device

Amazon has unveiled a new streaming device for HDTVs, giving instant access to a range of video content and games.

Amazon Fire TV will give users access to services such as Netflix, Prime Instant Video, YouTube and Hulu Plus, alongside over 200,000 films and TV programmes from Amazon Instant Video, music and games.

An exclusive feature called ASAP (Advanced Streaming and Prediction) offers predictions for which films and TV episodes users might want to watch, while users can sync the device to Amazon’s Cloud Drive to bring photos and videos to their TV screens.

Set to rival Apple TV, Chromecast and Roku 3, Fire TV has three times the processing power that its competitor devices offer.

“Tiny box, huge specs, tons of content, incredible price – people are going to love Fire TV,” said Jeff Bezos, Amazon.com founder and CEO.

“Our open approach gives you not just Amazon Instant Video and Prime Instant Video, but also Netflix, Hulu Plus, and more. On Fire TV you can watch Alpha House and House of Cards.”

Fire TV will cost $99 (£59) and is available immediately in the US.
