Border Profits Down To £2m

ITV franchise holder Border Television has announced annual pre-tax profits down 26.9% to £2.01 million (previously £2.74 million) for the year ended 30 April 1998. Turnover at the group stood at £15.81 million, up 17% year on year. Earnings per share were 12.5p, down 25.6% on the previous year.

Border reports that its share of ITV advertising revenue has increased 3% ahead of the market. It has also applied for a 10 year extension to its television licence which serves Cumbria, the Scottish Borders and the Isle of Man.

Border is the last ITV station on mainland Britain which is not owned by a bigger group. It believes that it will be able to remain independent after a year which chairman, James Graham, described as a turning point in its history.

The group also has radio interests which include Century 105FM, set to begin broadcasting from Manchester in September. Century 105 will join the established stations Century 101 in the North East, Sun FM in Sunderland and Century 106 in the East Midlands.
