The free press saw the largest declines in online viewing in March, according to the latest ABC report into the performance of digital newsbrands.
Metro.co.uk was down -12.4% on February, losing over 164,000 browsers. However, the newsbrand still secured more than 1.3 million unique daily visitors, keeping it in good shape before it merges with its much larger sibling, the MailOnline.
The London Evening Standard – standard.co.uk – was also down, losing just over 32,000 browsers (-12.2%). The online counterpart of the capital’s freesheet secured a total of 262,390 daily browsers.
However, the month’s strongest performance belonged to the independent.co.uk, up 15.8% – an additional 225,800 browsers.
Similarly, telegraph.co.uk saw solid gains, up 12.6% – almost 400,000 – keeping it firmly in third position overall, behind guardian.co.uk and the seemingly unstoppable MailOnline.
