Liberty Radio Fined £4,000 By Radio Authority
963/972 Liberty Radio has been fined £4,000 by the Radio Authority (RA) for failing to comply with its promise of performance, for breaches of the Authority’s programme code and for failing to supply tapes of the station’s output to the RA.
Authority checks on the London station found that speech levels fell below the 50% level required, and “the predominately seventies music policy also did not comply with the promise owing to the lack of current vocal tracks and an insufficient quantity of tracks in some other categories.”
The RA says that it was also concerned to hear a presenter editorialising the news with his own views.
If a licence holder breaches the licence broadcasting codes, the RA can request either a broadcast apology or correction or, as in this case, impose a fine.
