TV Round-Up – June 1998

TV Round-Up – June 1998

Once again all but Women recorded an increase in impacts for ITV year on year for June. The biggest increase this time, presumably because of the World Cup, was for Men where impacts were up 24.4%. Adults impacts were up 8.2%. Channel 4 lost impacts in all audience categories but Housewives/Children which was up 1.0%. Channel 5 impacts continue their rise; all audiences were up significantly year on year, notably Housewives which gained 68.6%.

A cheap month for ITV, again due to the World Cup. Cost per thousands (CPTs) for all audiences were down year on year during June, particularly for Adults – down 31.4%. Channel 4’s CPTs were also reduced for all audiences, but to a lesser degree. Channel 5 continues to become cheaper with CPTs also down for all audiences year on year.

ITV’s share of viewing during June was up significantly against the other channels’, reporting a rise of 2.7% points; BBC1 was down by 0.7% points. For the first time in a while, again due to the World Cup, cable/satellite reported a loss in viewing share of 0.9% points.
