The EC is considering examining for possible anti-trust infringements the cable TV and telecommunications service providers Cable I Televisio de Catalunya (CTC) in Catalonia. In one of the first uses of Article 85(1) of the EC Treaty on anti-trust grounds, the Commission will investigate the corporate concentration involved in the control of CTC by a group of European partners, comprising Endesa and Gas Natural – Spain’s leading electricity and gas suppliers; the Italian telecommunications company, STET; and the leading Catalan banking corporation, Caixa Catalunya.
