Northern & Shell appoints new commercial director

Publisher Northern & Shell has appointed Jason Mawer as commercial director of Northern & Shell+, the division which oversees print and digital sales, creative solutions and partnerships.

Mawer, who has been digital director of Northern & Shell since June 2012, will take the position with immediate effect, reporting to joint managing director Stan Myerson.

The move is part of an ongoing transformation as the publisher looks to “take advantage of the changes in the media landscape by offering clients evolving print and digital solutions.”

Under the changes, group trading director Jane Putley will become deputy commercial director, reporting to Mawer, and will oversee newspaper and magazine sales.

Nick Bradley, head of digital agency sales, will report to Mawer as head of digital, responsible for programmatic sales, audience growth, partnerships and optimisation.

Commenting on the appointment, Myerson said: “This is a natural evolution of our commercial team as we move to take advantage of the immense opportunities offered by our combination of media assets.

“Our business encompasses not only ad sales across our newspapers and magazines, but also insight into our audiences as they interact with our brands and partner brands wherever they are, be it online, on tablet or on mobile.”

Mawer, who has previously held roles at Haymarket and News International, said: “I am incredibly excited by the challenge of working across one of the most entrepreneurial business environments in the UK. As the media landscape changes, we are changing with it.”
