TV Market Round-Up – October 1999

Revenue Total terrestrial television revenue for October 1999 (including GMTV) came in at £307.6 million, according to agency estimates. The ITV Network saw a year on year increase of 12.2%; Channel 4’s revenue was up 8.4% and Channel 5’s grew by 12.5%. Revenue for GMTV dropped back year on year this month, by 2.7%. Total satellite revenue saw an annual rise of 32.0%.

Commercial Impacts ABC1 impacts for ITV were strong during October, showing a year on year rise of 4.9%. ITV’s Adults and Men impacts also rose year on year, whilst Women, Housewives and Housewives/Children all dropped back. Channel 4 showed a similar trend, although Adults impacts also declined for C4. Channel 5 improved commercial impacts in all audience categories; ABC1 Adults were up by 38%.

Costs Per Thousand Costs on ITV rose year on year in all audience categories, particularly Housewives/Children which were up by 22.6%. ABC1 Adults CPTs on ITV rose by 6.9%. Channel 4 costs were up across the board, whilst C5 saw CPTs fall for all audiences bar Housewives/Children, which was up 6.9%.
