Planet On Sunday Set To Relaunch

Planet on Sunday will relaunch this week, three years after it closed down within a week of publication. Published by New Millennium Newspapers, the national paper with a strong bias towards environmental issues will go on sale this Sunday under the slogan: A New Paper for a New Millennium.

The original Planet on Sunday launched in June 1996 (see New Sunday Paper To Launch) but closed its doors after just one issue (see National Sunday Newspaper Closes After First Issue) as publisher Chris Hards was unhappy with the finished product. Hards is now editor and publisher of the new Planet and has assembled a carefully-selected team of journalists to ensure his plans are successful this time.

Deputy Editor Tony Donnelly explained the idea behind the new Sunday paper: “We are not in competition with the other nationals but are providing an add-on service. All news will have an environmental bias but features will cover a broad spectrum of subjects,” he said.

“We will not repeat things that are already covered by the Sundays. There will be no television listings, no gossip and no professional football results. In fact, all sport covered will be minority, disabled and amateur events.”

The paper will be printed by Northcliffe Newspapers and its initial print run will be 350,000. It will be priced at 50p and will contain classified and semi-display advertising.
