Twenty Million Tune Into England v Scotland Match

Twenty million people watched coverage of England’s win over Scotland last Saturday, according to ratings estimates released this week. The match, the first leg of the Euro 2000 play-off, was watched live on Sky Sports 2 and shown two hours later on BBC1.

Sky estimates that 10 million watched the live game which was broadcast over a variety of platforms including Sky Sports Extra, the new Sky digital service, and the first ever webcast (see Scotland v England Euro Match Gets Live Sky Webcast). A spokesperson said that the figures are estimated to take into account those who watched in pubs and the current lack of digital data.

The BBC estimates that an average 9.4 million tuned into the game on Grandstand two hours later.
