Channel 5 Critcised For Football Ad

Channel 5 has had a complaint against upheld by the Advertising Standards Authority following an advertisment placed in The Mirror promoting its football coverage. The advert, which featured Liverpool striker Robbie Fowler snorting a white line on a football pitch under the headline ‘Chelsea On 5: Not To Be Sniffed At’, was considered at worst to condone drug taking and at best encourage an acceptance and apathy to drugs. The Authority asked that Channel 5 think carefully before refering to drugs in future advertisements.

Sky Digital also has had a complaint upheld against it regarding one of its adverts . The complaint centred on the claims made by the broadcaster that viewers would perceive a better picture quality from a digital satellite receiver than from an analogue system. The Authority felt that because no real evidence had been shown by the advertiser to prove the claims, the advertisement should be changed.
