Guardian Launches International Tabloid Edition

The Guardian is to launch an international tabloid version of the paper in order to boost its readership throughout the world. The paper will be distributed to major cities around the world by publishing and distribution agency PressPoint.

Launching in September, the Guardian Global Edition will be available as a daily paper in hotels and other PressPoint centres throughout the US and other key cities outside Europe. The tabloid paper will contain 24 pages of selected editorial from the main Guardian broadsheet newspaper.

The launch of the worldwide tabloid paper continues the Guardian‘s international expansion plans. Earlier in the year the group revamped its Guardian Weekly newspaper (see The Guardian Weekly Prepares To ‘Liven Up’) and international awareness of the brand is also being pushed through the publisher’s Guardian Unlimited Network of websites (see Guardian Unlimited Offers Content Affiliation To Web Publishers).

The Guardian‘s head of international planning, Nigel Bicknell, says: “The new Guardian Global Edition is the third phase in upweighting the paper’s international presence allowing Guardian readers to get hold of a copy of their favourite newspaper wherever they might be.”
