Vodafone to launch broadband and TV services in UK

Vodafone has announced that it will launch broadband and TV services in the UK in the spring, according to various reports.

Following in the footsteps of EE, which earlier this month launched the “most advanced TV service the UK has ever seen”, EE TV, Vodafone has confirmed plans to use its business fibre network and BT infrastructure to offer a UK broadband and TV service.

The news comes as the telecom company revises its full-year core earnings upwards, from between £11.4 billion and £11.9 billion to £11.6 billion and £11.9 billion.

According to a report in the Telegraph, Vodafone’s chief executive, Vittorio Colao, said that the company would use its own 21,000km fibre optic ‘backbone’ network to help reduce its own costs to compete in broadband and pay TV.

It was also suggested that eventually Vodafone could join forces with BSkyB and TalkTalk to invest in its own fibre optic infrastructure and bypass BT completely.
